Philosophy

Do you feel like you are rushing through life, too busy to stop and look around at nature? No time to discover something brand new? Or perhaps you took a picture and were disappointed by the result? Then join us on a journey to enjoy the beauty and magic of the outdoors, build memories, and make life more than (just) work.

About the Name

Outdoor could mean a mountain, a park, a city, or even your back yard. It could also be “outside of your mental grind.” Make life more than work, right?

Magic happens when you realize that something unusual—and hopefully beautiful—is happening. This builds strong memories, which often tie back to your senses. For example:

  • seeing dew on a flower or a mesmerizing pattern;
  • smelling the brisk morning mist or the salt of the ocean;
  • hearing wildlife in the distance or a stream bubbling in the woods;
  • feeling the cold that defines the area or the power of a wave; or
  • cementing those memories over a snack in the field, or a tasty dinner.

What We Do

Any of the following sound familiar?

  • Been on a trip and felt you missed something?
  • Feeling “down” and needing a little lift?
  • Turned off by “bad” weather or cold nights? (You are missing out on some of Nature’s treats.)
  • Disappointed by that picture you took?

We discuss how to:

  • Plan a trip and enjoy the journey,
  • explore locations to discover hidden gems,
  • leverage your senses to seed enduring memories,
  • evaluate weather and safety, safety, safety; and
  • use tools and techniques to bring a picture closer to that experience you had, so you can relive a memory again and again.

OutdoorMagic is photo-centric as this is how it came to be. Yet, anything here could be enjoyed without a camera. Perhaps you have a journal, a sketchbook, a video camera, or an audio recorder. These are all ways to immortalize that magic moment. Pick the one that works for you!

We hope you enjoy our tips, tricks, and personal experience. The outdoors are a truly wonderful place—even magical,—so let’s discover great ways to find that awe and then commit it to memory!
